why this story is important:

uterine and pelvic disability impact millions of people, many of whom have been dismissed and ignored by our medical system
-
at least 1 in 10 people with uteruses have endometriosis, and it still takes up to 7-10 years for many people to get a diagnosis
-
at least 16% of people with vaginas experience vulvodynia at some point in their lives
-
70 to 80% of people with uteruses develop fibroids by their 50s, and that number is higher for Black people with uteruses
-
all of these numbers only account for patients who have access to gynecological healthcare and have advocated for themselves long enough to get a diagnosis–prevalence may be much higher
